Can we bring back music from the 90s?

So it all kinda started with SWV  last week. I've gone into a 90s R&B music craze. I mean when you compare the music of today to the music then, it's great because people actually used to sing. Music was based on talent. And the songs, had more groove and soul to them.

Wells, I got this bright idea, to just talk about my favorite artists from the 90s, basically whatever I want to say about them. I would've start with SWV, but in my 90s crazed I came across, one of the greatest girls groups of the 90s:
EN VOGUE. so this first post will be about them.

A lil' history
(yes my main source is wikipedia, shoot me)

They were formed through auditions in 1988, which is surprising you would assume they were related,  bestest friends, or somethin like all the other girl groups but they were not. The two guys (Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy) wanted to recreate girl groups from the 50s/60s, originally it was supposed to be a trio, but one of the girls was so great or something [lies, lies, lies].

But really the great thing about this group is that they all can sing lead, which provided for some really great harmonies, melodies in their songs. The original members of the group were Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, and Dawn Robinson. Basically after one of their biggest song Don't Let Go Dawn left the group for contract issues. That was in 1996, since then they have worked as trio and quartet some time, because Maxine left to focus on her family, but then she came back. The replacement was this lady Rhona Bennett who you might have seen on the Jamie Foxx Show, the one that sang with Jamie and basically almost broke him and fancy up.

Anyhoo, He wasn't until recently that all four the original member were back together 2005, 2008 whichever reunion you want to count as legit. They are currently working on an album to be released this year, but Dawn won't be on it (WTF dawn?).

Hold On

Da Best parts: The opening of this song ALONE blows most of today's music outta da water. Like really no one sings acapella anymore. Also the groove of the bass, and guitar, ridiculously amazing.

Line Constantly in my head: Don't waste your time fighting blind minded thoughts of despair (had to look this line up)

Interesting fact: This was their Debut single, released in 1990. Reached #2 in the U.S. It's amazing that they came out so strong from the beginning.

Message from Video: Hold on to your love by dancing in an african jungle while playing a trumpet.

My Lovin'

Da Best parts: Of course the acapella 4-part harmony at the end of the song. And they can do this live people. Those oooo-bops in the background and also those appregio type things right before the chorus (first time around 1:05) like those are ridiculous.

Line Constantly in my head: oh, you're never get it, never ever gonna get (it's so catchy)

Interesting fact: This song contains a sample of the guitar riff from the Jame Brown song The Payback. The guitar sample is looped throughout the entire song and forms the basis of the melody.

Message from Video: You're neva EVA gon get it, but we'll do some sexy, sultry dances to tease ya.

Don't Let Go

Da Best parts: The chorus, of course specially the Don't let gooooo's. The guitar, piano chords. Just a Beautiful Ballad.

Line Constantly in my head: There'll be some lovemaking, heartbreaking, soul shaking

Interesting fact: This song makes me sad with in the first 5 seconds of it. I think of the movie Set it off. It's full of so emotion. So basically if you wanna make me cry, Play this song.

Message from Video: Some dude can sleep with all the members of the group, yet ya'll can still sing a song together about not letting go? Hold up. Also to guys, probably don't sleep with all the members of a girl group cuz they will all find out and sing angrily at you and then you'll be standing there looking real stupid.

And of course
there are more songs, but these a by far their most popular and my favorites.

JUST One more clip.
They group also appeared on the sitcom, Different World, close to the series end, as a group of innocent naive girls, who can sing you outta the water basically. I enjoyed seeing this. Here the group sings Free Your Mind (a song about prejudice)

As a kid, I remember Dawn (far right) always made me laugh cuz she was off from the other girls. But it shows their humor and silliness, yeah.

Alright that's it.
I hope you enjoyed this.
I'll do SWV next they definitely had some drama AND some great music.

PEACE & CHICKEN GREASE!
