Currently Reading...

James and the Giant Peach

by Roald Dahl..........

you ask why, huh? well its for one of my classes,
we are to write about a children's book, i chose this one
because I had never read it before, only saw the movie....
very similar to the books actually.....can't say that either is better....

writing this paper though...i find this book to be actually really deep...
lots of metaphors and stuff........
i dont know if you would want to read this....
i would recommend watching the movie though
it's pretty awesome........i think Dahl is just awesome..
here's a clip:

if you didnt know he also wrote Charlie & the Chocolate Factory,

recently (??) remade with Johnny Depp, which I really didn't enjoy in comparison to the original...maybe cuz im so used to it....Depp has a good portrayls though of Wonka....but kinda
ruined it to me, but it's good in its on right...............

So this one time I got stuck on an elevator...

well actually it was this past weekend
on saturday about midnight...i think.....
let's just say circa midnight-ish....

me and some friends...got stuck on an elevator...
it was a very nice elevator tho suprising...very sleek, shiny, and black......
we were goin to the 7th floor, lucky eh, and some how some way
got stuck b/t the 6th and the 7thfloors...i mean it happens right?

well twenty minutes passed until we got off, not bad right........
but alot happened in that time........
crying, laughing, singing (old negro spirituals, gospel, random, and etc), story telling, playing of Big Booty (with people outside the elevator also mind you, amazing), and also just totally standing in silence just waiting for the time when we would reach land (actually the floor)......

very exciting experience though......my first time actually being stuck on an elevator.......wasn't scared at all though......it was fun....i was just waiting for someone to have a baby...cuz that always happens on tv....but thanks goodness no one was pregnant....hahahaha

it did remind me though of this video i saw entitled "Holy Elevator", where these people sing a song totally about the holy elevator, asking Jesus to take them higher on the elevator check out it....kinda hilarious....

but ummm
RANDOM PICTURE TIME!!!
(all the children scream)

(huge pile of bananas....mmmm)

New President, & etc...

ya'll we's officially got a new president, a man of African descent
Barack Obama!!!!!
(said in my "That's why I'm Oprah!!" voice)
(not a picture of Obama, I kno, but a picture of the inauguration....duh)
should be an interesting four years, lets see what happens....
now in other news....
I touched the hand of music soul, r&b, gospel legend Mavis Staples.....
and I got witnesses , TRUST ME!
it was so cool, she was amazing...if you don't know about her you should
imeem that, man!
anywayz.....

everything is kool and chillin,...i been making it by and by, you know how i do...
maybe you don't but who cares????
"not I said Sam I am"
interesting.....

so this is a random post
(YEHA FOR RANDOM POSTS!!!)
now its time for a random picture
(YEAH FOR RANDOM PICTURES!!!!!!!)
(smashed potatoes yo, put some pepper on it)

aight, Peace (dueces) & Chicken Grease

So you know who I wanna see in concert

Before I die???
Jazmine Sullivan!!

she's coming to chicago like sometimes in feburary, the 27th to be exact, at the Chicago Theatre, she's touring with Ne-yo (whatev),
If you don't know who she is you'll soon find out (cuz im gonna tell you....)
her first single "Need you Bad", was a hit on the radio in the summer, still pretty hot now too though.......her second single "Bust Your Windows" is a pretty awesome song, talks about busting up cars and stuff...pretty kool, check out the video:

Bust Your Windows - Jazmine Sullivan

(wonder why there's no busting of cars in this mug, man, kinda disappointing).

She's been compared to likes of Mary J. and the wonderful Lauryn Hill, but I think she has a very unique sound, more to me like gospel singer Kim Burrell, very deep full voice...just love her....
anywayz I wanna see her in concert before I die...but I defintely got to get me some mulah....
and I need to find somebody to go with me (preferrably another Jazmine Sulllivan fan, not somebody who just heard "her song that one day and thought it was nice", but you know it really doesn't matter).... really i wanna go....i need to go....hopefully I will go....

Welcome to the Movies (let's go see the stars)

The Devil Wears Prada

recently saw this movie....great movie...
Meryl Streep was pretty amazing......I just realized though that
there is only one black person in this film really........
but other than that I really enjoyed the film. Makes you think
of the stuff we do for our careers (as if I have one yet), what changes we are
willingly to go through.....just a good film..you should see if you havent
(even though i'm sure you have)

I also "watched" The Illusionist ,

which is fairly dull in comparison to the greatness that be's the Prestige,

(starring Hugh Jackman, the Batman guy (Christian Bale), the movie is about something..... a magician (illusionist??) who does all this crazy stuff, with souls and stuff, and he's got this childhood sweetheart, forbidden love....
let me just say you should probably watch this one before you watch the Prestige you'll be fairly disappointed if you do it the other way........people though do like this one better....but whatev....
you judge....
u already have my thoughts on it......

What's going on..............

Nothing much really going
besides the cold, snow, school, classes, work...
wait i forgot....

MLK (Martin Luther King, Jr.)

day is coming...which at NU means no classes! whew! but its a day full of events, some which I will be participating in...
one involving gospel singer Mavis Staples
(look she's a singer)
of the Staples Singers. Their hit "I'll Take you There" is amazing (check out that bass line)

also you should check out this vid....

and then, I almost forgot the day after that
the historical inauguration of Barack Obama

as the 44th president of the United States
should be awesome...i kinda wish i could go to
somebodies inaugurational (???) ball...
then again i kinda wish they would cancel class on
tuesday too....i dont know we'll see should be excitingggggggg

but other than that, nothing's happening....
im just chillin (you know)

But before I go,
RANDOM PICTURE!!

PEACE & CHICKEN GREASE!!!

MY CURRENT OBESSION:

............The Boondocks....................
(love it!)

if you don't know about you should cuz i feel like i was the last person to find out
about this....its an amazing show with black characters, and defintely black language
just love it, so realistic, characters are really real (hahaha)....story lines are great....i feel like every show has a message that relates to the current issues facing the black community whether making fun of something or not....but its really good.

Voices
Regina King (227, recently in This christmas)

provides voices for Riley brothers, Huey and Riley.
can i just say she's amazing never knew she could be so funny.....love her....

The guy that played Pops from the Wayans Bros and Ice Cube's dad from Friday, his name is John Witherspoon plays the Grandaddy adds the generational element to the show, great.

AND they always have guest voices from all types of black celebrities, its pretty cool to recognize the voices.
anyways here's a clip where Huey describes a Nigga Moment (haha):

you should watch just because i made a whole post about so it must be important(and it is)...hahaha

Book Rambling

Never thought a book would be a post on my blog
cuz im not an avid reader at all...i mean AT ALL...
but thanks to the miracle of academies and Northwestern
i have been able to read this book called There are no Children Here..
by Alex Kollowitz

its about two brothers Lafayette and Pharaoh, actually based on a true story...
well i should actually say its true...very good though
actually depressing at times because it details the very poor conditions of these brothers and family
in the Chicago ghetto's back in the 1980s.....
very depressing but actually im hoping positivity comes in some form......i'll let you know what happens in the book...maybe
but so far very interesting...

Apparently also made into a movie in 1993, starring Oprah,

I'll have to check that out also...and I'll get back to you on that...

Music Rambling

Teyana Taylor,
a protege of Pharrell, she's a singer/rapper/dancer.
her single "Google Me", is pretty hot....especially the "google me baby" part hahaha
she seems pretty kool check out "google me" here.

and to prove she's a dancer she did her own rendition of the ever so famous
"Single Ladies" dance. Check it out below (Sorry for the random guy(??) screaming how he's in love with Teyana)

I'm gonna keep an eye on her....

Also looking at

Donald Lawrence,

who no longer sings with the Tri-City Singers, heard this song
Back II Eden, profound song about how we fell from God's grace, but then Jesus came and everything is now alright......love it.......(on top of the world).......awesome
check it out...

SCHOOL BACK IN SESSION.....

:( :( :( [and plenty more sad faces]......
my winter break concluded
i journey back to Evanston
preparing myself to be diluted
by the world of academia and education

happy to see friends so dear
but i wish the quarter wasn't so near
nevertheless looking forward to the joy and pains
and hopefully i'll learn something and stuff won't be so lame

just to let you know i didn't intend on writing this post in rhyme
but that's what's needed sometimes
and hopefully i won't do this often cuz this is hard to say the least...
to end my pain and misery...PEACE & CHICKEN GREASE!!

Movie Rambling

Lakeview Terrace
Starring Samuel L. Jackson, as the crazy neighbor cop
and Kerry Washington and some white guy, Patrick Wilson, who i never heard of before...
it's a pretty decent movie, can make you kinda mad...because you're just like seriously...people dont act like that..... do they?.....
....... (random)
really deals with racism tho, because washington's & wilson's character are an interracial couple, and wanted to be a family and Jackson's character totally opposes that (didnt really get why...maybe i wasn't paying attention..) ...i give the movie props for that...racism always big issue that needs to be dealt with...

I guess samuel is trying out some new roles....well i dont remember him always being so like evil...cuz he's also in the move The Spirit,
where in the preview he just looked weird, the entire preview was weird....not that interested in seeing it...check out the movie trailer..

i did see the movie for free so i dont know exactly if Lakeview Terrace is worth the money......
yeha that its im done rambling.....

PEACE & CHICKEN GREASE (i guess this is my official sign off now....idk)

Music Rambles

so my current musical obsessions:

Musiq Soulchild
His luvanmusiq album pretty good....i listened to the first four songs on this album.....amazing! there's a couple others too that get stuck in my head ("Millionaire").
At first I thought this was his latest album but he has come out with another one called Onmyradio. (whaaaa....????)
Including my favorite song: a duet with MJB (mary j blige that is) called "ifuleave" love that song..check it out here.

Brandy

Recently listened to her new album, Human, in its entirety on imeem. I really didnt enjoy it, maybe have to listen to it again. Brandy definitely has a higher voice on these tracks...weird......but she's still amazing...I think her singles (Right Here, Long Distance) are awesome. my fav being the latter.......it be stuck in my head all the time.......check it out..yeha

John Legend

His single "Green Light" is pretty awesome....feat. Andre 3000 , who definitely makes this song hot. Just luv it, very smooth, and can be used at times when im really ready to go. (The hook "I'm ready to go right now"....) yeha....

that's it...
PEACE
