So it all kinda started with SWV last week. I've gone into a 90s R&B music craze. I mean when you compare the music of today to the music then, it's great because people actually used to sing. Music was based on talent. And the songs, had more groove and soul to them.
Wells, I got this bright idea, to just talk about my favorite artists from the 90s, basically whatever I want to say about them. I would've start with SWV, but in my 90s crazed I came across, one of the greatest girls groups of the 90s:
EN VOGUE. so this first post will be about them.
A lil' history
(yes my main source is wikipedia, shoot me)
They were formed through auditions in 1988, which is surprising you would assume they were related, bestest friends, or somethin like all the other girl groups but they were not. The two guys (Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy) wanted to recreate girl groups from the 50s/60s, originally it was supposed to be a trio, but one of the girls was so great or something [lies, lies, lies].
But really the great thing about this group is that they all can sing lead, which provided for some really great harmonies, melodies in their songs. The original members of the group were Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, and Dawn Robinson. Basically after one of their biggest song Don't Let Go Dawn left the group for contract issues. That was in 1996, since then they have worked as trio and quartet some time, because Maxine left to focus on her family, but then she came back. The replacement was this lady Rhona Bennett who you might have seen on the Jamie Foxx Show, the one that sang with Jamie and basically almost broke him and fancy up.
Anyhoo, He wasn't until recently that all four the original member were back together 2005, 2008 whichever reunion you want to count as legit. They are currently working on an album to be released this year, but Dawn won't be on it (WTF dawn?).

Hey ya'll
so I'm currently NOT reading this stupid Plato book I'm supposed to be reading, that I don't understand, that just getting on my last nerve....so I thought I would update the blog considering.....ya know stuff.
-------------------
First, NCAA Championship game was last night. If ya didn't know I had Butler in my bracket going to the 'ship.
like the worst championship game I've seen in like ever. STUPID BUTLER. STUPID BULLDOG. STUPID PAINT. Like I think Butler got one shot in the paint last night (i am right?). STUPID.
how you come dis far into the championship and then just like suck for realzy. like really. I think they were just trying to get my hopes up, making me think I was gonna be all baller and stuff, but then no ya let me down. ya let me down BIG TIME.....so ya know what I'm never playing this stupid bracket thing again.......
nah, but I actually will. It was fun though, I would be willing next time to bet some money in next time. like 2 or 3 cents. ya know how I do....
-----------------------
Second, I have a tumblr now. imtheasauce.tumblr.com. I'm still finding my way on tumblr so things might be a lil raggedy. What's surprising is how much education/teaching stuff there is on tumblr, like teacher use technology?. But it makes feel in the know about teaching. so I'm def posting alot of teacher stuff on there, but also some silly things and other randomness I enjoy. And I'll probably still do longer post on here, cuz I need to ramble and rant somewhere...
--------------------
Third, my new (old?) favorite song prolly for the next 3 or 4 days, maybe even a week.
Rain by SWV.
Man, this song makes me miss real R&B, and general music from the 90's. You can't deny the aural pleasure (hahaha) you get from this chill, soulful music. Press play.
--------------------
i don't really have anything else to say...I'm gonna try to read Plato, probably not though....
much love.

Music, youtube style.
Here's some videos, all strangley involving music, some good, some bad. Enjoy!
1. Shardinay - Oh Boy - Music Video
I had this one under my favorties for awhile, but ya know I've been busy lately (translation: i ain't been doing nothing). Anywayz this is one of those BAD ones. This one just starts off bad and gets no better. And she's the "UK female singing sensation". Sensation, yeah, I get this terrible sensation in my ears.
2. Bad Crack
From the title, I first thought this had to do with the lethal white stuff, but then you see the snapshot of a choir singing and I was like whaa. But once you hear it all make sense. I admit I've watched this about 5 times, and everytime I laughed, and cried. It's so horrible. What makes it so bad is she continues to sing. no! No! NO! NO!. I'm gonna come back to video though when I'm feeling blue and just laugh, laugh laugh (cuz you know he who laugh last, laugh last, laugh first, laugh last).
3. Jazmine Sullivan - Holding you down (going in circles)
This is one of the GOOD. Jazmnine's new single off her upcoming album, which I'll probably buy, cuz I loved the first one. I like the homage in the beginning to Mary J. Blige, cuz people say she sounds like her, I always hear Kim Burrell though, so I don't know about that. But it's catchy definitely.
4. OMG Rude Boy (Cover)
I loved this cover! The way the two songs were mixed was bomb, I kinda forgot it was two different songs. But I love it when white people sound like black people, and can do all the vocal acrobatics, and have the soul. It's amazing to hear! Though, I can do without the guy cuz the girls kill it! I like the blonde's voice more than the brunette though. It has like a little twang to it, but still soulful.
That's all.

Youtube Mania (from Denver)

1. Shawt Bus Shawty.
This is so hilarious. The Gucci Mane drool hilarious. Waka Flocka verse omg. Just Hilarious.
2. Everest College Commercial - Hood Variant
Pretty funny. This seems like something Dave Chappelle would have on his show if it still existed.
3. Up above my head
I really like this video, it so kool. This is like one of my favorite Kirk Franklin songs. So jazzy and this group does a great job.
4. Fantasia- Bittersweet.
Fantasia Back! and this is a pretty good song and video is really nice.It good to something nice and lovely and sk-nanky and nasty.
5. Fast Food Folk Song.
This is so amazing. The guy totally gets everything they say in the sung. I want to do this one day. in my life. but at McDonalds.
That's it.

GLEE
(hey I know this image is old, but it works and I didn't feel like looking for another one)
is so freaking kool and awesome! Can't wait untill the new episodes. A couple of days ago, I got all caught up with episodes ( being a college student definitely limits my amount of TV watching)
and basically glee, the story lines are kool, and dramatic and stuff with crazy love triangle, squares, but I must admit
I REALLY REALLY like the singing. I mean without the singing the show would just be about a glee club (boring...)....
And the girl that plays
like pretty much at the end of the episodes I was just like "This chick is sick!" like she needs to
get her own thing going on so I listen to it, seriously.
And probably if it wasn't for her I probably wouldn't watch the show either, or at least to
me the singing would not be as good. I mean the Jewish girl is pretty good, and the guy in the wheelchair is suprisingly good (sorry can't remember anyone's names), everyone else is mediocre to me.
But yeha a few songs/videos where Amber was killin'
"Lean on Me"
"Bust Your Windows"
(think this is a repost, whatevs)
"Proud Mary"
(FYI: she does do (??) her own thing apparently)
"Sweet Thang"
that's it!

Instead of Studying for my midterm
I've found it a must-updation about this music jewel (it's my precious) I found.............
I may straight listen to this chick for 2 weeks. She's sick, in many ways unimaginable.....
don't know who I'm talking about?
I'm talking about Ledisi

If you like neo soul or R&B seriously you should love her. She's definitely alot more jazzy, but she's
one of the few people whose every song I'm just like AMAZING. Please just go to imeem and type in Ledisi, and hit play or something......
Like usually when I'm studying, which I was, I try to play Neo-Soul music, it calms me down when I thinking about all this crazy numbers stuff, but this woman does some crazy things with her voice: the harmonies, the rythm, i mean her scatting, her expressitivity (??) craz,. That i just couldn't concentrate on my studies w/o being like "wait that lick/run was so sick!"
Like I heard of her before, but I never really looked into any of her music, really mad I hadn't earlier.
Like seriously she is a music jewel that has just been added to my favorite music list and will be continually on repeat for Lord knows how long.
Yeah just wanted to share this with you, cuz I can!

Midterms.....SMIDTERMS!
SONG of the DAY: (i hit random on Itunes). The Love You Save by the Jackson Five.
so I should probably be studying for my midterm that's on friday...
but I'm not...I'm writing this post (clearly!)....
but this is around the time of the quarter that I anticipated/dreaded,
business 24/7. Everything is kinda overlapping, and so many things must get done: classes,
band, work, sleep, organizations, homework, eating. Yes, eating.
but ya know this is the college life, specifically the Northwestern life, we are all running around
doing 50 bijillion different things, mainly because we're CRAZY. I'm taking it all in though,
cuz before ya know it college is over, you got a REAL job, and your life is over, and all you do is reminisce on the days of college life when you had so much freedom (well, sort of).
I'm taking it all in though, esp this season, I love fall,

AND when I think of fall I just feel like automatically relaxed, it's a fresh of breath air i mean a breath of fresh air, I think that has something do with the leaves blowing in the wind........{blah blah blah, what I love about fall....blah blah blah}.......
this weekend is exciting though, the 'Cats face off the Indiana Hoosiers (what the HELL is a Hoosier?)
they are 4-3 like us. And of course it's homecoming. I'm banking on all these factors, and considering we lost to them last year, that we should win. I'm excited, but it's gonna be a long weekend.

FRIENDS, (How many of us have them??)
Answer: I would assume that everyone does, but then there's this guy

yeha
seriously during my little BUTT-tastrophe, friends were there.
and they are so awesome for that.
*so if your one of those friends reading this you are awesome, just so you know.
and if I happen to win/earn a million dollars one day, you'll get some. most def.
this post also reminds me of a song we used to play in high school band at the for graduation
every year:
"That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne Warwick.
That's what friends are for.... to help you when your butt hurts! (btw the black star power in that video is amazing, I've never seen them for sing together in my life...really kool to see)
Thanks guys.

Since I've been Bed-Ridden
basically been watching some things...
I watched
Dr. Horrible Sing-Along blog

on Hulu, watch it here
recommended by my friend Kira (she's great, like Frosted Flakes!...idk)
one of those good musical things I've seen in awhile .
Neil Patrick Harris can actually sing though, I was very surprised.
And it defintely had some funny parts, especially the joke "by hammer I mean my penis".
I enjoyed it.
I watched Marvin Sapp's

Here I Am
live recording of his new album,
stated to be released all the way in Feb 2010.
I'm wondering if I should be pre-order it.....
Oh, I knew about it thanks to Gospel Pundit.
sounded like some pretty good songs,
one song that was really good, BEST IN ME,
basically it was just saying God saw the best in me, even when everyone saw the worst in me.
and the chat they had, was going off, like the entire time.
I guess people our just excited as I am about his new album.
yeha that's it
this is more of a music post I guess...

P to the R to the O to the....oh I finish the rest later....
yes,
third week of school...
but finally I have free time (Thank the Lord, like I'm serious)
but um...this is an updation....about what?, I don't know
but that doesn't really matter cuz I'm not doing homework at this moment..
therefore this inquires me to ask myself "Self, what's really goings on?"
"well gotta couple of things to look forward to this weekend: ".
John Legend concert (Gotta get myself excited about that..I don't think it has hit me yet)
I know he's gonna sing my favorite song beside Ordinary People, Green Light ft. Andre 3000
check out the video.
(wouldn't it be crazy, if Andre 3000 randomly showed up?)
also heard his brother, Vaughn Anthony (shouldn't it be Anthony Vaughn??), is gonna to open for him, and I've heard one his songs randomly off of some black gossip site (theybf, i believe) and he sound exactly like John Legend....so.....we'll see....
Football Game (Kinda excited about this, esp. after coming off the win against Purdon't)
it's against Miami (OH). 11 am kickoff, and I will be wide-awake (or at least mildly) to see the 'Cats lead us to victory.
besides the weekend stuff,
yesterday, I went to HOTR, the black christian group on campus, and I really enjoyed myself. I was very apprehensive (oooo big word) about going cuz usually it's really long. But as it has seems lately every time I go to church or some religious thing I always feel like everything is directed right at me. Thing last night, it just really inspired to keep goin and keep pressing through THROUGH God's mercy and love. but yeha..
which reminds me, songs of the day: "I Yield My All to Thee" & "Everybody Praise the Lord" songs by O'landa Draper & Associates , of which I posted videos of in a previous post. Also found out that Draper died in like 1998 from kidney failure, and that's sad. but yeha.....
I guess that's it.....
guess I'll get to some H to the O to the M to the E to the..........you know the rest....

Youtube Mania: Gospelized Version...
Yes, it Sunday! so I'm doing a gospelized version (Even though I listen to gospel music like everyday)..
so this is pretty much the Gospel Choir Edition, featuring mainly the Tommies, also known as the Thompson Community Singers
"Available To You" (Part 1) - Rev. Milton Brunson & The Tho
this is my favorite song of their's. and to hear the background of it makes it even better to me..
this first part had me in tears (for real) within like the first 2 minutes....powerful...
I Worship You
I love this song...the video is different, but kool...ya gotta love Mary Mary...
"Safe In His Arms" - Rev. Milton Brunson & The Thompson Com
Wow, this soloist kilt it! I love this song too....
"For The Good Of Them" - Rev. Milton Brunson & The Thom
Okay, so they have some very good soloists, cuz this chica here is good also......
"Over And Over" - Rev. Milton Brunson & The Thompson
Good demonstration of that choir song....idk...It's an oldie but it like a song I would expect every choir to know... i guess.
Soul Children of Chicago - The Reason Why We Sing
This kid is good! Like what?
MISSISSIPPI MASS CHOIR
okay they took it back......awesome to hear this on youtube. I Loved it when the deacon came out, that's how they be singing too..
that's it!

Whitney Houston "I Will Always Love You"
is one of my favorite songs of all time. It is my favorite Whitney Houston song.
A little history:
This song was originally written by Dolly Parton (Yes big-boobs Dolly, hahahahaha can't believe I said that) in 1973 to Porter Wagoner, who had his own show titled The Porter Wagoner Show (duh). anywayz Dolly appeared on his show, as a kinda co-host. Anyways this was kinda Dolly's goodbye song to Wagnoer (I'm guessing romantically and to their business partnership). Listen to the lyrics you'll understand.
Anyways this song is actually a country song. Which is so apparent in this version:
but ya gotta listen even closer for it in Whitney's version....
oh and here's my interpretation of whitney's version (hahahah hilarity)
aight I'm through....

A Post Chock-ful of Randoms
150 the POST!!!
song of the day:
"Hold On" by Yolanda Adams, heard this last night. "Hold on to your dreams" so inspirational...
======================
"Technotronics"
Every thought there would be a LAPTOP with two full-size screens?!I didn't. Found it on Raw Feed, which at times can have some interesting technological thingys (yeha) check this out.
I want one of these!
===============================
Super! BB Updation
Last week : Okay so last week Jeff was HOH, he put up Kevin and Natalie as pawns, he also won POV, nominated Russell in place of Kevin. Russell went home.
This week: KEVIN became HOH (YES!). Thought he was going to put up Jordan and Michele but he put up Jeff in Jordan's sted. Michele won HOH, so Jordan and Jeff were against each other. And Jeff went home (guess he's not winning it America) .
FINAL FOUR! : Kevin, Natalie, Michele, and Jordan (will a woman win this season?)
Unfortunately Kevin has "blood" on his hands now. so we'll see what happens.....I want Kevin to win, but at this point I don't really care anymore...
=================================
Movie Rambling : A.I

I watched this a few days ago. Okay I loved this movie up until about the last 30 minutes, it just got too unrealistic. This was almost going to be on favorite movies list (which is pretty long already)...but it's definitely something I would watch again.
Stars Haley Joel Osment, who plays David, a robot type kid (the first of its kind) who basically wants to become a "real boy" (yes like Pinocchio) to gain his "mother's" affection. Osment acting was amazing for however old he was at the time of filming. Also starred Jude Law, who was basically a human, but still robot, vibrator type thingy, like people were having sex with robots!.
It was funny though, cuz at first I was like "I'm not gonna feel bad for this robot, he's not even human", but that movie had me mad at those people what they did to David. So it was good I enjoyed it.

Youtube Mania (yeha you know the deal)
1. song (video?) of the day: "Chillin' " Wale ft. Lady Gaga
I gravitated to this song because of Lady Gaga. But I really like Wale the more I listen to the song.
Couldn't get this outta my head today:
2. Granny Biscuits.
Found this on Brittny's blog. Too hilarious, I love Biscuits though....
3. Whitney Houston- Million Dollar Bill (FULL, PERFECT MP3)
Here's Whitney new song from her anticipated comeback album: Million Dollar Bill. Definitely old school-ish (it's all in the bass) . Chorus is catchy, if I listen to it enough times I'll definitely like it more.
*For some strange reason, vid is 5 mins long, even though the song is only actually 3 and something...too lazy to change it...so yeha..
4. The Whitest kids u'know-Dear black people
Searched Youtube with "black people" (see black people is bolded) and this was one of the resulting videos.
Too funny for words. This just cracked me up!
5. Funny Black People (Black Nerd Tribute)
My eyes saw Black Nerd, so I clicked on it. Dude is pretty good impressionist. Funniest one was def Whoopi. yeha...watch it.
That's it!

DC chillin, PG chillin
My name WALE and I came to get It
Came to get it, came to get it
My name Wale
(although it wasn't these exact words, but you get what I'm saying)
*Note: Why does Wale have a miniature Lady Gaga in his hand? What craziness!*

Updations : - )
BB Updation
ummmm let's see what happened. Russell's HOH. oh, Michelle won POV. Kept the nominees the same. Jessie, ol' girl (Natalie), and Chima tried to get Russell to take Ronnie off. But Russell wasn't having it. They tried to work on Michelle too, cuz apparently she's the deciding vote. But that didn't work. so Ronnie & Lydia are still on the chopping block. My guess: Ronnie's going home, will make me kinda happy :-).
oh, there's like this message board thing with people putting some of the houseguests' heads on stuff it's quite hilarious....let me find a funny picture of Ronnie to share.....

Baritone

(basically looked like this, but silver, its so nice)
I played one today. How you ask? Well it has to do with a lot of things. Well actually just one thing. My dad's sister (not my auntie) moved from K3 back to Chicago (apparently she's after some dude that don't want her, but that's Drama I don't really care about). Chica has like 7 kids, maybe more than that. And her oldest son, played the baritone in the band. They moved out already...making a long story...the baritone has to go back to the school...so it's at our house.
Anywayz playing the baritone, made me realized I haven't played my trumpet since I've been home. and makes me think I should before band camp. I though seriously have no inkling to , and I really don't care at this moment.
I think I'm going to play the Baritone again tomorrow. This also reminds me that I never switched over to French Horn like I wanted to Senior Year. But it's over and done and I'm stuck with the Trumpet.

Weeds
So today I was going to cut the grass (right cuz me and my dad have this deal. Like I cut the front yard, and he cuts the back). But there was no gas in lawn mower. so I was like I'm going to take these flowers out the pot in front of our house, cuz they had all died, I was gonna do this anywayz cuz I was already outside.
Now I didn't really wanna go back inside so I decided to take out the weeds arounds the flowers in the ground outside our house (there were like three talls ones). and as I was doing this I realized there were alot weeds around these flowers in the ground, like tons.
As I was pulling all the weeds. I started feeling bad for the poor flowers. Like dude their just trying to grow. But there is so many weeds. and they had no one to save them. Like if I hadn't done that the weeds will still be there.
And I just started thanking God for salvation. Like we have so many weeds (bad things that just hinder us from growing). and God wants to do what I did for those plants. just take them all away. We have so many weeds in our life. I mean there's like evil lurking everywhere. You gotta get rid of them weeds. If you don't you'll be like those weeds in the pots...you'll die.
Thank You God for that revelation.

Music Stuff......
spent about 45 mins doing this so you should listen to it....
I realized this is a good thing for Flo Rida, it gets people to know you're song, by exploring all the different parts of it. Quite cool and smart.
You can also find this song here
========================
Bowling For Soup- My Wena
Not a fan or anything just saw this video (and I must admit the song is catchy).
* WARNING: Please do not watch this video if you do not like Penis costumes or Penis comedy*
(You can press play if you want to but I warned you!)

Youtube Mania: Gospelized Version (part 2)
Had this saved for awhile, but was kinda lazy to post it and find videos....
but listening to certain songs, I had to find videos for it....
anyways check 'em out!
Mississippi Mass Choir
Jesus Paid it all....the beginning(the first two minutes) of this song is pretty amazing....
tried to find video, couldn't find it, but check out the song on imeem....
AND check out this substitute video, also from Mississippi Mass Choir
JOY
i think the dude (James Moore) leading the one is the same guy who leads Jesus Paid it all...
*Not to be funny or anything...Moore does not look how he sounds....that's a good thing....*
Kirk Franklin
Savior More Than Life to Me
(we kiss thy presence in the temple....whaa Kirk?)
Don't take you're joy away
(sing Tamela!)
Again it's nice to see this videos, that I only heard for so much of my childhood. It's funny though cuz you imagine people to look so different...but hey I think it's just a blessing from God....yeha..
=======================
so I'm gonna be singing in my church's Family & Friends Choir, here's a few songs we're are singing.....
My Name is Victory
Jonathan Nelson & Purpose
(i love the little twangs on this song...you probably don't know what I'm talking about specifically but...quite amazing song...btw...saw him live)
Souled Out
Hezekiah Walker
("my mind is made up...no room no vacancies...I'm all filled up" wonderful lyrics)
It Ain't Over
Maurette Brown-Clark
(This song is amazing, and by far the hardest song we're singing....check out the "No, no, no!" when the hook comes around the 3rd time....can you say high?)
There's like 4 more, but didn't feel like looking them all up.....

Youtube Mania! 56th edition
yeha......
Youtube videos...watch 'em cuz I already have...another by alphacat, really funny. "You're Cute!" hahahahaha
3.Mariah Carey - Obsessed
okay speaking of popular music. I love this song, even though it not really about anything, and is quite repetitive. weird...the video is actually pretty funny. Mariah making fun of Eminem, apparently they've been having this beef ( i prefer chicken), kool song though....

click here (or above), embednesss disabled...why?
4.Stephon Marbury Crying (Official)
okay, you know gospel songs make me cry to unexpectedly so I feel him on that. It's a little weird to do that on a live vlog thingy. And I just wish he would've said something cuz it's really awkward to watch someone cry for 5 mins. People's comments are also hilarious...
Note: Dude singing in the video, doesn't seem to be making things betta. probably cuz of that off-key singing.

5.New Boyz "You're A Jerk" OFFICIAL Music Video HD Extend
this is a kool dance. if I learn it I will post a video of it (w/o the skinny jeans). I will first have to make an effort to learn the dance...yeha... I like how the song says "You're A Jerk....I kno" ( in my white girl voice "That's totally what a jerk would say! " ).

Youtube Mania: The Gospelized Verison.
seeing as how it's Sunday and everything
thought this would be befitting....mmmm
yeha check him out.
============================================================
1. NU MLK Day 2009 Celebration with Mavis Staples Pt. 2 of 4
I'm in a choir at NU. NCE (Northwestern Community Ensemble) we call it. In the later half of the video its us singing "Thank you Jesus". Remember, this was the day Mavis Staples touched my hand. And if you look at the related video she touches my hand first, yes, there is evidence. But anywayz check it out.
2. EVELYN TURRENTINE-AGEE
Who did it? GOD DID IT! Love this song! My mom recently got the CD (like yesterday). This video was apparently at some gospel legends thing. I saw this on tv once, i think. I'm going have to come back to it though. *btw, I see you Kirk Franklin!*
3. Gospel Choir Song - I Love to Praise Him
Okay so this may not be the best version of this song, but I had to add this video for the marching in. That's usta be the coolest thing to me. I love when I could marching in.
4.Howard Gospel Choir - "Song of Praise"
Many a day I find this song in my head, even though I don't really know the words. Howard does a great job with this. Like amazing.
Here are some others couldn't find a video of but love them nevertheless.
They Didn't Know by Kurt Carr (amazing song)
A Spiritual Medley by Sounds of Blackness (crazy good)
Anthem of Praise by Richard Smallwood (yes)
could definitely added more to this list. but it would become extremely long.
anywayz that it.
God Bless!
